Daffodil Place welcomes cancer patients and their families

Daffodil Place in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador

Linda Moulton and Agnes McCarthy don't know what they would have done without Daffodil Place in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. Daffodil Place provides cancer patients and their families who must travel from across the province for treatment a comfortable place to stay during a difficult period.

Linda stayed there with her husband during Christmas 2011 when he was being treated for prostate cancer. "We made long-lasting friendships with people at Daffodil Place who shared a common story. When anyone is dealing with cancer it is so helpful to have someone to talk to who can relate to what you are going through," Linda says.

Agnes, age 69, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009. She was worried about the surgery and sought the comfort provided by Daffodil Place.

"Although I could have stayed with friends while in St. John's I chose to stay at Daffodil Place. I needed to be among people with cancer diagnoses. The support there was tremendous. We were all there because we had cancer and together, we learned what hope really is," Agnes says. After a successful surgery and an additional 16 radiation treatments, Agnes was given a clean bill of health.
