Story 13

Survivors help patients

René Labossière

René Labossière, of Montreal, knows what it's like to need someone to lean on. When he was undergoing treatment for prostate cancer, he used the support services offered by the Canadian Cancer Society and was grateful for the help provided.

Now that his cancer is gone, René wants the chance to be there for cancer patients who need a helping hand.

He has become a peer support volunteer and a driver at the Jacques-Cantin Lodge.

Our peer support programs connect people with cancer with a trained volunteer who has had a similar cancer experience. Read more about how our Peer Support Service helps hundreds of cancer patients and caregivers every day or call 1-888-939-3333.

If you've been a caregiver to a loved one with cancer, why not get involved as a peer support volunteer?
